WOMMA Verbal Nuggets - Day 2

December 13th, 2006

Here’s what managed to stick in my head for day two of the DC WOMMA Summit:

Sports fans are the personification of passion and community. -Kathleen Hessert, Sports Media Challenge

From Jake McKee’s (Big in Japan) presentation:

Everybody goes home happy (this should be your motto when developing WOMM).

        Control through participation, not directive.

Fans are not wierd just because they love you.

Egos: Lose yours, play to theirs.

Start what you can finish. Remember that these are long-term initiatives. (I love that one.)

Companies have two choices: Join the conversation or join the conversation later anyway. - Bob Pearson, Dell

A video doesn’t have to go “viral” to be successful. Owen Mack, CoBrandit

And finally, from John Moore’s Tribal Knowledge talk:

Building the business creates the brand.

        Make the common uncommon.

        Remarkable things get remarked about.

Marketing has two audiences - the customers and the employees.

Make the company something to believe in.

Be mission-driven to change the world.

Man, it was great to get to see old friends again and meet new ones. I’m sure Geno and VeeDub will have some thoughts, and I’ll post some additional ones when I return to the homeland as well. I hope the nuggets will tide you over until then!

That Bob Pearson quote is gold. Is that paraphrased or literal?

  2. Spike says:

That’s right from the horse’s mouth, Hans.
