The real thing.

May 1st, 2008

A friend asked me a question yesterday and it got me thinking about a little part of the Brains on Fire culture that makes me smile. If you’ve ever been here, you know this already, but if you haven’t visited our headquarters in beautiful GreenVegas, we have a coffee bar in our lobby. Expresso shots, lattes, the works. One of my favorite items at the bar is Coke in the little 8 oz. green glass bottles. Yup, the real thing.

We have many a client who requests one the moment they walk in the door. I am not a big soda drinker, but once in a while, I’ll find a quiet place and pop one myself. Just something about that little green bottle that calms me. Interesting, huh? Maybe in this over crowded, over stimulated world we all kinda long for and find comfort in a little bit of the real thing once and while.

Found this great post about the can from the brand new blog.

You probably “feel” that way because as a child your parents gave you Coke. Coke is the number 1 brand in the world. They are the masters at developing brand identity and making you and me feel a certain way.

I eat out a lot. Let’s say 5 times a week. I always order Diet Coke with my meal. Whether its just a Diet Coke or a Cruzan Dark and Diet Coke, it’s always a Diet Coke. I can’t stand it when a waitperson says “Pepsi okay”? Ah, no, it’s not. I hate the taste of Pepsi. Or at least I think I hate Pepsi.

There was actually a study that was performed (maybe your new brain doctor knows of it) that showed that when the name Coke was mentioned people’s happy emotions were triggered. Pepsi did not have the same results.

Coke will always be a part of my life, like Crest Toothpaste and Bayer Asprin. There are just some ties that can’t be broken.

    Thanks for the post.

I think that just comes down to a little bit of nostalgia. The way things were when you’re grandparents were young. Things were better and simpler then.

I was going to post the same thing Pete said. It’s nostalgia related, I think.

Quite frankly, I find the glass bottles somewhat annoying to drink out of and they almost always are too small. I’d almost always rather have a 20oz in a plastic bottle.

Well, the bottle does make a big difference in much the same the cooking process at Krispy Kreme makes a difference. Coke is of course one of the best and longest lasting brands out there and they really know how to “work the brand.” The coke is a glass bottle is not designed for a quick swig but rather it’s to be savored. It the difference between drinking wine out of a wine glass and drinking wine out of paper cup.

I still like my Coca-Cola over ice. But, glass bottles (when fully chilled) are the next best thing!
