Smarter People

January 23rd, 2008

Today is one of those days when all of us on the blog looked at each other, looked each other over, thought very carefully and, with depth, determination and conviction in our voices, we cried, “NOT IT!”

So, rather than try to force something that’s going to come out sounding… well… forced, I thought I would share some wise words from people who are much smarter than me:

  •  ”Good fences make good neighbors, but take the fence away and you have a bigger lawn.  Get a few more neighbors involved and soon you’ve got a park.” - Matt Mason - The Pirate’s Dilemma (referred to us by our good friend John Moore)
  • “Use your own good judgment in all situations.” - Nordstrom employee handbook (Courtesy of our friend Dan at the American Booksellers Association)
  • “All mankind is divided into three classes: those that are immovable, those that are movable and those that move.” - Benjamin Franklin
  • “We have enough youth.  What we need is a fountain of smart.” - Anonymous (courtesy of some gift calendar some printer gave us)
  • “An idea is salvation by imagination” - Frank Lloyd Wright
  • “I am always doing that which I can not do, in order that I may learn how to do it.” - Pablo Picasso
  • “One way I think you can tell if you have a curse on you is if you open a box of toothpicks and they all fly up and stick in your face.” - Jack Handy (courtesy of my freshman roommate)
  • “No community is best served when only the elite have control.” - J.J. Abrams (in his speech at TED)

Happy Wednesday

love the honesty….and the wisdom….some days it is difficult to know what to say and to admit you’d rather not be IT today.

I like how the Wright and Picaso quotes fit really well together. It’s amazing how much play and just the attempt at discovery will open up new worlds. It’s amazing the worlds that open up when you create new connections.

Please, there must be a cartoonist out there that could draw a picture of the toothpick attack!

I have not laugh some much in a long long time. Thank you.

Jennifer, may I add one of my own?
