It’s Arrived…

Size: 50 gallons
Complexion: Charred America white oak
Personality: Well-rounded with a distinct character
Just in time for Christmas I received a package from Maker’s Mark announcing the arrival of my own Maker’s Mark Barrel. My barrel number is 793606 imprinted on a fancy Barrel Birth Certificate. That’s cool enough but I also received directions to see my name etched on the plaque that will mark the barrel for the next seven years of its life.
Maker’s is the Grandaddy of ambassador movements, and the thoughtfulness of the Barrel Dedication Kit will stick with me every time I order, a Maker’s and Coke, a Maker’s Manhattan, or a Maker’s Old Fashioned. To be honest I’ve never thought of this before, but if your going to drink why would you just order a whiskey, Maker’s really understands this ownership thing. They’ve got me.

December 28th, 2007 at 7:09 amMy favorite gift this year came from the fine folks at Maker’s Mark. They sent me a stick of red sealing wax and a brass seal, embossed with their stylized text. This is their thanks to me for being a brand ambassador of their product, which I must add, is sublime, without regard to what kind of gift they give me. But many thanks to them, as this really is a great thing for my increasingly hectic life.
To spend another few seconds melting the sealing wax on the envelope and stamping the wax with the seal transports one back to another world. A simpler, more transparent, more organic time. In these days of multiple email addresses, cell phones, text messages, how much more compelling is the art of the letter? Will it break through the clutter of the on line chat lifestyle?
I pray it will.
Proud to be an ambassador!

Geno I assume you have heard Ben and Jackie’s Church of the Customer podcast with Bill Samuels from last year? They talk about the ambassador program, absolutely fascinating.

Mack, I sure did. The Samuel’s story hits close to my heart. Bill reminds me of my granddad. My Grandfather told awesome stories and I always liked to hear him have conversations with others. The thing that has stuck in my mind about Maker’s and more to the point The Samuels was their belief that advertising was rude.

Great to hear the excitement from a fellow ambassador. My barrel should be ready within the year and . I think the ambassador program would suffer if the product wasn’t so easy to recommend.
See you at the mile

I just had a very good friend of mine pick my bottles up from Loretto yesterday. She is shipping them to me as we speak… I will be anxiously awaiting their arrival!
I live in the Pac NW and was unable to make the trip, but the staff at Maker’s Mark were wonderful in helping me set up the proxy pick-up! I will most certainly make it down there sometime soon to thank them all in person!
Just another “Proud Papa” moment!
