Dumb, Dumb, Dumb

December 18th, 2007

I love this time of year. It’s the time of year when parking lots are a little bit fuller, elbows are a little bit sharper, check-out lines are a little bit longer… and everyone and their mother comes up with a Best of 2007/Worst of 2007 list. Whether it’s the top media errors, Book Sense Bestsellers of the Year, Best Ad Songs of the Year, Word of the Year (w00t!)… I love them all.

And today I was exposed to a new one.

It seems that, for the last 6 years, Business 2.0 has been issuing a list of the Dumbest Business Moments of the Year. So… meet year number 7. It’s great. From Kazakhstan revamping their currency… only to misspell the word for “bank” on some the bills, to the fake Wal-Mart travelers blog. From Bank of America forcing their employees (whose jobs were sent overseas) to train their replacements in order to receive severance, to M&M Menorahs that apparently have a pesky tendency to burst into flames. Even Greenville’s own minor league baseball team mascot rang in at #94. It’s a rogues’ gallery of some of the most amazingly awful decisions made by businesses across the country… and just in the course of one year. It’s pretty humbling when you think about it that way. And, frankly, some of them are downright funny.

Of course, with all of these valuable lessons learned… I’m sure the list will be shorter next year.

Right?
