On Thankfulness
November 22nd, 2007
This is Spike posting in Cordell’s place and sharing this internal email he sent to the rest of the team…
Starting a business and building something from nothing more than a few ideas and a little courage is quite a journey. Like most endeavors that require a wholehearted commitment - marriage, parenthood, etc. - you can’t really predict what will happen. All you can be assured is that you will learn things about yourself you might never have known. Somehow it always reminds me of the first time I went snow skiing. The instructor said, “If you just keep leaning forward, you won’t fall.” Of course they don’t prepare you for how fast things will fly by you or how hard it is to stop. Somehow you just figure it out.
During the early Greg and Greg days, I remember the business was all about owning something. We were gonna make our mark on the world! The sky was the limit. I will never forget the day I stood with Ramsey as we looked over our brand new offices, and thought, “Wow, I can’t believe this is ours.” Then we got lucky and won some awards and this and that and thought, “Wow! Look at what we did!”
But as time flies by you, the thing you’re not prepared for is coming to the realization that what you really, deeply love most, are the things you can never own. The friendships. Getting to spend your days with amazing, beautiful people… who leave their mark on you.
And for that, Thanksgiving is really every day.
Thank you. Thank you for you. Thank you for your courage, ideas, inspiration and determination and all that I learn by being part of this with you.
Wow! Look at what you did.
Have a joyful Thanksgiving.

We certainly do have a lot to be thankful for. I know I do. I’m blessed with a loving family at home and at work. I’m one of the few that goes back to those Greg and Greg days. I think we were so caught up in ideas, inspiration, etc… I know I had no idea where we were going. My have things changed.
I’m glad to still be on the ship. Happy Thanksgiving everybody.
