Help rebrand NASA

Friday, September 14th, 2007

Well, not really.
But Wired Magazine noticed that the government agency revealed a new slogan back in August. The new tagline? (Get ready.) “NASA explores for answers that power our future.” Which isn’t any better than what they changed it from (“Explore, Discover, Understand.”).
Wheeeeeee.
So the boys and girls at Wired think that they American public [...]

Reheated WOM

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

Today, I am eating leftovers for lunch. Not even my leftovers. Leftovers from yesterday’s account manager lunch and learn. And it’s funny the odd parallels you draw from lukewarm ziti. I sit here at my computer, munching in between sentences and feeling pretty unfulfilled - perhaps because it’s not the original [...]

Rock Chalk, Jayhawk, Go Citizen Marketers

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

Our own Young Gun, Joe, pointed me to this site yesterday.
Apparently this Kansas University student isn’t too happy with the font change on the college basketball and football uniforms. In fact, he’s set out on a quest of “Preserving a typographic tradition.”
The old font was a “curling, arc-serifed typeface” while the new font is Trajan…which [...]

“Word of Mouth Marketing” is officially the new overused/misused marketing term

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

I’m over it (the term, not the practice). And I guess I knew it would happen sooner or later: every marketer in the free world is either trying to give advice on word of mouth marketing or says that they are practicing it. From big ad agencies to the guy working out of his garage.
I [...]

Mommy WOM

Monday, September 10th, 2007

Long time no see, blogfriends! While I have been keeping busy for the last few weeks with my newest production (photo shamefully shown here), I have also been experiencing the Mom WOM phenomenon first hand.
There are entire companies and marketing practices devoted to the conversations between mothers and harnessing their brand recommendations. There [...]

The New Blogger Outreach Code of Ethics – by Ogilvy

Friday, September 7th, 2007

It’s no secret that we’re fans of John Bell in these parts. Those Ogilvy folks are no slouches and now they’ve come up a new code of ethics for reaching out and contacting bloggers. And it’s great stuff.
We do get our fair share of PR folks contacting us to “review this book” or “take a [...]

Dear Apple,

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

UPDATE:
I love you, too. Thanks for the $100.
*****ORIGINAL POST*****
I’m not mad. I was - for a bit - yesterday. But I’m over it.
Yeah, I waited in line and was one of the first to get his hands on the shiny new iPhone just ten weeks ago. I even paid $600 for an 8GB. Someone asked [...]

Run From the Border

Wednesday, September 5th, 2007

Alright, I know Taco Bell is not, by any means, the bastion of great service or anything, but I just have to take a little time to vent about a lousy customer service experience.
A little over a week ago, my boyfriend had a craving for Taco Bell. So off we went. We pulled [...]

Beware of the dirty SEO company

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

Man, oh man. I had no idea there were so many underhanded search engine optimization companies out there. But I guess where there’s money to be made, I shouldn’t be surprised.
Everyone wants to be on page one of Google’s organic results. And a lot of companies are promising that for their clients. But my advice [...]
