Bonehead Roundup – the Third Installment

September 20th, 2007

(Here you can find installments one and two.)

First up is Johnson & Johnson. If you haven’t heard, they’re suing the Red Cross for copyright infringement of the red cross logo. J&J has owned the rights to it since 1876. The Red Cross is selling products (so they can get revenues to, you know, help people all over the world) with the red cross on it.

Ever heard of bad karma, J&J? And why stop there? You can sue the US Army (or just about any country’s military) for using the red cross on medical vehicles and uniforms. And how about Switzerland? Sure, it’s a white cross on a red background, but it’s close enough. Goodness gracious, they’re the freakin’ Red Cross, what else are they gonna use for a logo?

And then there’s this:

NBC gets mad at Apple, probably because they aren’t making enough money on their TV shows on iTunes, and pulls their lineup. Then they go to Amazon and their little known app called Unbox and drops the price. Oh yeah, and did I mention that UnBox isn’t compatible with Macs? Oh, you can also download them on the NBC site, which “hopes to be compatible with Macs sometime in 2008.” So congrats on turning a whole community of people against you, NBC. It doesn’t bother me that you couldn’t come to an agreement with Steve Jobs. It bothers me that you’ve decided to punish Mac users because you couldn’t come to an agreement with Steve Jobs. I blame you.

Boneheads. All of ‘em. Boneheads.

    Hi,

Sure, it’s really bad karma to sue the Red Cross, of course. No doubt about it.

Part of the story though, from what I know, is that the license that J&J gave to the Red Cross to use the logo specifically stated that they couldn’t use it to sell products. Isn’t it pretty stupid of them then, to simply ignore that? Even if it’s for a good cause. Maybe they could have just tried to renegotiate?

Pretty bad karma to “use your good karma” to try to be untouchable I would say…

Talk about bad Karma…Johnson & Johnson sent someone to list the ways that J&J could have me killed and make it look like an accident or a suicide if I tried to sue J&J for keeping FlossRings off the market for over a decade now. J&J’s wheel has come full circle. Suing the Red Cross is the moral equivalent to suing Mother Teresa.

    Sincerely,
    Sean Dix
