Let’s Talk Trucks…or not

August 1st, 2007

Okay, I’m back from a little R&R and that means it’s back to blogging.

Today’s topic? GMC’s shoddy attempt at creating a “conversation” though LetsTalkTrucks.com. From the site:

Ads are everywhere. Claims are flying around. But what do they all mean? Who’s the real deal? People who know drive the GMC Sierra. And you should hear what they’re saying.

First of all, that doesn’t make any sense.

Secondly, the site is a group of ads. Okay, testimonials that are ads. Each of the nine “Real Owners” are all professionally shot and edited and start out with their story “What drives” them. Then, there are clips of them talking about the GMC Sierra’s “Versatility,” “Comfort,” “Professional Grade” and “Reliability.”

All thinly disguised ads.

The funny thing is, “Let’s Talk” is big and bold on every page. But this isn’t a conversation, it’s GMC talking and you listening. There’s no conversation. No give and take. No banter. And no place at all for GMC owners to connect with one another.

Seems to me that it’s all hat and no cattle. Nice try, boys.
