Curiosity Team Assignment
October 27th, 2006
I forgot to post last week’s Curiosity Team assignment, so this week, you get a two-for-one to kick you off into the Fall Back weekend.
Over the last two weeks, I have asked the Curiosity Team to send me words, images, ideas, memories, smells, songs, people - anything that comes to mind when they hear these words: PRECISION and NURTURING.
Feel free to join the conversation in the comments section! Or email me at curiosityteam@brainsonfire.com to join the team! But whatever you do… remember to set your clock back on Sunday.
Prost!

Precision = snippy little scissors, dental tools, the sound of toenails being “snicked”, gear teeth meshing together
Nurturing = warm blankets, someone else fixing dinner, receiving unexpected help with a difficult task
The ultimate image (for me) of precision and nurturing together = my grandfather hoeing in the garden. He barely moved the hoe and weeds flung themselves out of the ground and the corn/beans/tomatoes would immediately stand up straighter (they knew he was there to help them, I think).

Precision - neurosurgery, needlepoint, the Saturday night live spoof commercial about circumcision in the back of a Lincoln.
Nurturing - green thumb, Poison Ivy (Uma) in the Batman movie, breast feeding, playing catch with a youngster.

Precision - computer programming, making clothes, Norm Avarem (measure twice, cut once)
Nuturing - warm tea, milk, parents, church, business to business partners

precision: the avro arrow, a close-up along the edge view of a bowie knife, the look in an archer’s eye when the bow is drawn back, the perspective of the trapeze walker who is about to walk across Niagra Falls on a thin cable.
nurturing: a young mother laughing, head back, hair free, lying on green grass lawn (mown) with her young child (1 or just walking) happy, smiling, leaning on her tummy, –> all of it a safe and happy place where a love of life is nurtured.
