		<description>Provocative post. I've been to 14 of the 21 places nominated. I don't mean sound blase -- yes, Machu Picchu is a trip, and Angkor Wat* is really wonderful -- but is this contest just a doozy of a way to promote exotic tourism, or a sincere attempt to figure out what exactly are the "new 7 wonders" of the world. Because if it's the latter, then I would probably be nominating things like: high speed elevators, the (is it too obvious to say) Internet, cheap long-distance commercial jet travel, fMRIs to probe consciousness, etc.
