Overload

October 11th, 2006

USA Today posted a great article yesterday about the excruciating extremes of advertising overload. Stated simply - they quote Advertising Age‘ editor-in-chief Rance Crain: “Advertisers will not be satisfied until they put their mark on every blade of grass.” The examples and statistics in the article are sort of staggering. (Nothing we haven’t heard before, of course… but always worth repeating.)  I suggest that you just read the article… because they say it better than I could. Of course… the moral of the story comes from Max Kalehoff of Neilsen BuzzMetrics: “If you want to make friends with your customers, you have to stop hitting them over the head.”

Cheers!

Thanks for the shout-out. The reporter and I had a conversation about this piece I wrote a few months back: http://attentionmax.com/blog/2006/08/are_advertisers_suffering_from.html

    Cheers,
