Bracket bust, and Best College Prank

March 24th, 2006

Well last night just sucked. Duke, West Virginia and Gonzaga all go down in defeat. It’s what March Madness is all about, exciting basketball that goes down to the wire. You win some at the buzzer and like last night went, you lose some at the buzzer.

Now for a great college basketball prank story. First let me say I hate Georgia Southern, they have a few good fans I can count them on my fingers. As I was reading in enemy territory the Southern Connection Message board I found an interesting topic “Could we pull off something like this on Furman?”

I have to admit this is one of the cruelest and funniest college pranks that I’ve heard of in years. It was California’s finale home game against USC. USC guard Gabe Pruitt took his first trip to the free throw line, the Cal student section hollered in unison: “VIC-TOR-IA, VIC-TOR-IA,” and then yelled out a telephone number. Pruitt glanced at the crowd in horror before clanking his free throws.

A couple of Cal students from the student section had been IM’ing with Pruitt all week under the name “Victoria,” a fictional UCLA hottie. Pruitt was anticipating a date with this co-ed back in Westwood after the game. To top it off Pruitt had handed over his phone number, which the Cal student section recited back to him in unison.

Cal beat USC by 11. Pruitt only hit 3 shots out of 13 for the game. All reports say Pruitt was great sports about after the game, to check out the original story go here.

The lesson here if you’re a Furman athlete don’t go there. Those GSU bastards are cruel evil thinkers. I wish we had thought of this.
