What is Your Dangerous Idea?
January 11th, 2006
Alright, I can’t necessarily connect the dots from this link to the naming and identity world, but this is too cool not to share.
There is this amazing organization called The Edge Foundation. Their mission is:
“to promote inquiry into and discussion of intellectual, philosophical, artistic, and literary issues, as well as to work for the intellectual and social achievement of society.”
Wow.
Now, every year, The Edge Foundation poses a question. It’s completely open-ended and provocative, and great thinkers from all over submit their intellectual ponderings. This year’s question is “What is your dangerous idea?”
And what a great question! Even if I can’t achieve the kind of depth and breadth of the submissions to the Edge annual question (even if I can’t really even understand half of the submissions… seriously… read some of these things!), I certainly hope that I can embrace the spirit of it in finding the dangerous ideas for myself and for our clients. Because, hey, what ’safe’ idea has ever been truly remarkable?
(By the way, I want to tip my hat to Russell Davies, who brought this project to my attention on his blog. And he actually DID take on the task of connecting some of these highly philosophical and esoteric dots to brand strategy here.)

Liquid soap, those little 10 min. boil-in bags of white rice, and low-calorie dog food. (Do you detect a pattern too, or is it just me?)
