This might be old news to some of you, but since I’m not an avid Amazon.com user, I stumbled across it today (yes, you caught me - I was getting a last minute Father’s Day gift). If you go the home page and scroll down almost to the bottom, on the left hand side you’ll see a list of “Special Features.” And one of those features is a link called “Early Adopters.” Click on it and you’ll see gadgets, music, etc. that Amazon says are the “newest and coolest products our customers are buying.”

Huh?

I thought part of the early adopter mentality is that they are proud to find new products and services on their own. When Amazon.com makes a neon sign that flashes “EARLY ADOPTERS - COME THIS WAY,” they might be very well be making early adopters steer clear of that area. On the other hand, they might be sending the Regular Joe that way and letting him think he’s an early adopter.
