NCFL is Hiring a Community Manager + Literacy Specialist

Our clients at the National Center for Families Learning are looking for a Community Manager and Literacy Specialist to join their team. Ideal candidate has experience in effective family engagement and subject matter expertise in at least two of the following areas: early learning, K-12 instruction and/or curriculum, reading development, STEM-based instruction and/or curriculum, out-of-school learning. Responsibilities

  • Manage digital communications accounts on leading social networks (Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, etc.)
  • Schedule and publish daily posts to Wonders of the Day and other relevant material
  • Retweet, like, favorite, and respond to posts as appropriate
  • Develop and nurture relationships with individual users (via Twitter, etc.)
  • Work with communications team and other NCFL staff to integrate digital communications (such as Wonderopolis) into other NCFL work
  • Respond to comments on digital communications sites (i.e. Wonderopolis.org, Camp Wonderopolis, and Wonder Ground)
  • Manage monthly #WonderChats (develop calendar, recruit hosts, lead chats)
  • Monitor internet and networks for digital communications resources, lesson plans, blog posts. Work to include these in other digital communications as well
  • Recommend and present at conferences and presentation opportunities, including ideas for presentation topics and co-presenters
  • Manage team of 15 Wonder Lead Ambassadors
  • Monitor and support activity
  • Lead monthly Ambassador calls
  • Support Lead Ambassadors in collaborative events and presentations
  • Manage discretionary funding projects/presentations
  • Attend organization and industry-related meetings, as required
  • Write persuasive and engaging materials for parents/families and education professionals
  • Support the annual Families Learning Summit
  • Recognize and takes advantage of appropriate opportunities to advance the work of the project team, the organization and the field of family literacy
  • Attend organization and industry-related meetings, as required
  • Establish individual goals which are aligned with the organization’s mission
  • Function as a contributing member of the department’s team and other teams, as assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management or executive leadership

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (Master’s degree preferred) in education
  • Demonstrated proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in English is required and Spanish language skills as applicable
  • Three years teaching experience preferred
  • Community management experience and strong, demonstrated social media skills and presence
  • Ability to think strategically and communicate effectively
  • Passion and enthusiasm for digital communications and inquiry-based learning, and growing online community and advocates
  • High aptitude for expanding and translating online engagement into offline opportunities
  • Demonstrated experience in developing educational materials and delivering professional development
  • Comfortable managing a team of lead advocates
  • Ability to match energy to workload as needed for both planned and spontaneous activities, sometimes after business hours
  • Ability and willingness to collect, analyze, and report on a wide range of metrics on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
  • Strong written and oral skills
  • Self-starter qualities
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in program implementation and educational technology
  • A strong and highly proficient technical knowledge in at least two of the following areas: early learning, elementary education, secondary education, and/or adult education
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse audiences, ensuring all participants feel respected and valued
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and efficiently on varied projects simultaneously
  • Ability to effectively utilize technology in an educational environment
  • Ability to travel including occasional evenings and weekends
  • Location of this position is in Louisville, KY – relocation allowance is included
